Keep Healthy All Year Long, Media Tours Focus on Health and Fitness

February 23, 2012

Statistics show that by February 25% of new years resolutions are broken. However, many of NBN’s clients are committed to the progression of good personal health and fitness. For our longtime client The American Heart Association, we did a combination RMT and NewsInfusion.com page for their Walking Clubs promotion. The AHA says that only 15% of Americans get at least the recommended 150 minutes of moderate exercise each week, but one way many more of us might be motivated to get up and walk is by joining walking clubs. The AHA is partnering with Walgreens to promote the program and had Dr. Barry Franklin, Ph.D., Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation and Exercise Laboratories at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan as the spokesperson. Dr. Franklin says there’s a real physical advantage to exercise walking: “For every hour of regular, vigorous physical activity, like brisk walking, life expectancy may increase for some adults by two hours.” The NI page includes video B-roll, a press release, the RNR audio and script, and details about how to form or join a walking club www.newsinfusion.com/events/AHAwalkingclub

Another longtime client dedicated to health and wellness is Shape Magazine. For Shape we put together a co-op media tour with senior associate lifestyle editor whom gave tips on improving health and dropping those extra holiday pounds. Among the clients were Fleishman-Hillard St. Louis, representing Select Comfort; Porter Novelli DC, representing Nature Made; and Fleishman-Hillard NY, representing Perdue. The tour had 17 interviews and an additional release through NewsInfusion, Made in Hollywood, Ion TV and a Radio News Release. You can see the co-op page here: http://newsinfusion.com/events/shapemagazinewinterwellness.

In a three hour media tour from Orlando, Florida, the Diet Diva – Tara Gidus, who is also the team nutritionist for the NBA’s Orlando Magic – told stations around the country that there are specific reasons that most people lose their motivation to follow through on their plans for healthy eating. She said, “Many of us start the year with lofty goals but we soon realize that they are unrealistic and that we don’t have support from family and friends. So, to make worthwhile resolutions, make sure they are achievable.  Write down your resolution and make a specific plan for implementing it.” The tour was for Jamba Juice and Tara explained, “On a practical level, you can find healthy alternatives, especially if you’re on the go. Pop over to Jamba Juice for one of their new Fit ‘n Fruitful™ smoothies with a Weight Burner Boost.” You can see the video – and get a little resolution inspiration at http://newsinfusion.com/events/jambajuicediet

Breakthrough in Cancer Research Highlighted in Our Tours

January 12, 2012

Approximately 240,000 American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer over the next 12 months. And while the majority of these men will have slow moving cancers that don’t pose much health risk, a new study found that 90 percent of those diagnosed with prostate cancer receive treatment which is often invasive and has serious health side affects. For our client IQ Solutions representing the National Institutes of Health, we booked and produced a three hour RMT with Dr. Patricia Ganz, director of the division of cancer prevention and control research at the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Ganz told 19 interviewers that the study found that for some men, close monitoring rather than immediate treatment is the best course. You can hear the RNR on NewsInfusion.com at this url: http://newsinfusion.com/events/prostatecancer

NBN did an RMT early in December 2011 for the American Society of Clinical Oncology on the top breakthroughs in cancer treatment in 2011. Dr. Nicholas Vogelzang said there has been continuing progress in several areas of cancer treatment in the last year, they include children’s leukemia, skin cancers, lung cancer prevention, breast cancer prevention and exciting new drugs for the treatment of cancer. The three hour tour was fully booked with 18 interviews. Despite the mostly good news, Dr. Vogelzang said nearly 1.6 million new diagnoses of cancer are expected in the next year while 572,000 Americans are expected to die of cancer this year. Health Wellness and Grace

January 5, 2012

New Year, new motivation. Now that the season of indulgence is over, it is time for the season of the resolution. Last month many of our clients produced tours focused on keeping in good health during the holiday season. Our sales staff put together a co-op tour with Mary Anderson, the deputy editor of Fitness Magazine, to discuss some easy and effective ways to stay active and healthy during and after the hectic holidays.

The tour included partners Champion, General Mills and Kinect for Xbox 360 and featured 25 interviews. Mary Anderson offered tips on how to fit in time for exercise, the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and how to look and feel good while working out. As with all co-ops, the tour also included secured video segments on Made in Hollywood, Ion TV and a radio news release. The video is on NewsInfusion.com: http://newsinfusion.com/events/survivingtheholidays

A few other holiday-themed projects are an SMT and web video with nurse Barbara Dehn who discussed keeping your bones healthy during and after the holidays.

Our client Robinson Lerer Montgomery representing Optimum Health, provided useful tips for avoiding holiday stress and recession depression, the project featured Dr. Joseph Hullett.

We also did an RNR with the Travel Channel’s Samantha Brown on tips for holiday travel. The RNR included secured broadcasts on Radio Disney, Sirius Stars, Oprah, Fox News, Fox Talk, CNN Headline, CNN, and CNBC channels on Sirius / XM. Additional holiday themed projects included Verizon Wireless, Kinect for Xbox 360, Tom Kraeutler at the Money Pit, Common Sense Media and tips for avoiding holiday scams with the Consumer Federation of America.
