The Best Part of Wakin’ Up
June 22nd, 2011 – If you’re like most of us, you start each and every day with a cup of coffee. It’s part of the morning routine. The strong, bold flavor starts the morning off right. The timeless Folgers jingle is so true, it is “the best part of wakin’ up.” Now, for the second straight year, Folgers has held a contest to choose the best new musical interpretation of their iconic jingle. Thousands of musical acts from across the country submitted their unique spin on the Folgers The Best Part of Wakin’ Up™ jingle. The top five finalists were chosen and competed in a live audition event in Times Square, judged by Kara DioGuardi, award-winning songwriter and head judge of Bravo’s songwriting competition series, Platinum Hit. The winner received $25,000, a music mentoring session and will appear in a future Folgers commercial.
We worked with Cohn & Wolfe for Folgers to produce and edit video of the contestants competing for the top prize for both event and media use. At ABC studios the day before the contest finals, our production team shot, produced and edited videos of contestants to air during the live event the following day. Our crew also shot the live musical event where the finalists rocked the Times Square studio in their quest for the top prize. We then did a quick-turn around edit and distributed the package which included footage of the top four finalist bands performing live, the announcement of the grand prize winner, as well as sound bites from the winner, Kara and other contestants. This was a complex, fast-paced multi-faceted project with no time for error, and NBN delivered. And now for a nice cup of Folgers. Check out Kara and the contestants here.
